I scheduled this post to publish today, September 24, 2021. It would’ve been my grandmother’s 85th birthday. She died of COVID-19 almost two months ago, on July 30th. It wasn’t just my grandmother who contracted COVID, though. July wasn’t too kind as my mother, her brother, and brother-in-law (in short, my uncles) were infected as well.I wanted to write this for a couple of reasons – to give closure to those nightmarish 5 weeks, and to remind whoever cares enough to read this to take COVID-19 seriously.

Not to sound edgy or anything, but in my advanced age I’ve found that the celebration of Earth completing another revolution around the Sun to be completely pointless. There is simply no significant scientific reason to celebrate (a fact tweeted by Dr. Neil deGrasse-Tyson, for a which he got called out for; I do believe he deserved the backlash for being a dick lol). I do, however, acknowledge that sentimentality is a part of the whole human experience — and as this blog has shown, I for one am a very sentimental idiot. Even in my cynical years, I don’t think that will change, no matter how aggressive I try to stay logical.

One of things that really grind my gears when it comes to growing up in a small town is that people have a tendency to react to information with reckless abandon instead of logically assessing the situation first.
