Silence is the Enemy 2021

Not to sound edgy or anything, but in my advanced age I’ve found that the celebration of Earth completing another revolution around the Sun to be completely pointless. There is simply no significant scientific reason to celebrate (a fact tweeted by Dr. Neil deGrasse-Tyson, for a which he got called out for; I do believe he deserved the backlash for being a dick lol). I do, however, acknowledge that sentimentality is a part of the whole human experience — and as this blog has shown, I for one am a very sentimental idiot. Even in my cynical years, I don’t think that will change, no matter how aggressive I try to stay logical.

So, with all that babble out of the way, I guess I just want to say Happy New Year! What a shit-show 2020 was, objectively speaking. Obviously there were worse years throughout human history, something nerdy edgelords like to point out, but that shouldn’t diminish the difficulty the world had to endure the past 366 days.

Maybe I’ll go in-depth with a sappy sappier post. Maybe. But with all the unfortunate global events that have happened, such as the death of many famous individuals like Kobe and Gigi Bryant, the George Floyd murder and the subsequent protests calling for justice, and of course, the Coronapocalypse that upended how we live our modern lives, the disdain that people feel are legitimate.

No, we won’t do some predictions for what is going to happen in 2021 — not because of superstitions like jinxes or whatever — it’s just not a good way to approach things anymore. Let’s just take it a day at a time.

Do I still hope? Sure. But we should temper our expectations with logic and reason. I hope I could get a shot of COVID-19 vaccine tomorrow, but we all know that’s not happening lmao. But seriously, hope responsibly.

Once again, happy new year, please be safe. The Coronapocalypse ins’t over yet. Continue practicing health protocols like washing your hands, wearing a face mask, physically distance yourself from other individuals, and stay at home as much as you can.
