Small Town Thinking

The point of all this is, I think I’ll write about all the typical bullshit mindset prevalent among the denizens of small towns. Also, just to clarify, I don’t intend this to be an indictment of how horrible rural people are. Obviously, the worst of our species reside in both rural and urban environments. It’s likely that more good-natured people with good intentions exist in these communities than the truly terrible ones. The issue here is the acceptance of problematic traits, and how they’re considered a normal way of life.

Batanes Vlogs (Redux)

Remember almost three years ago I wrote about my misadventures in Batanes? Well, the end of that post had a YouTube playlist of “vlogs” of said misadventures. I had no clue about video editing at that time, which is more than evident in both the aesthetics and actual #content of the videos themselves.

Fret not, for in the years that followed, my video editing skills have been upgraded to “intermediary” — meaning while I am not ready to edit the next Oscar-winning movie, I am more than competent to make YouTube-worthy videos.

Music Mondays: “Odd Eye” by Dreamcatcer

Today’s Music Monday features the comeback single of my favorite KPop girl group Dreamcatcher called “Odd Eye”, from their mini-album Dystopia: Road to Utopia, the third installment of their Dystopia trilogy.

Social Media/Social Awareness

I personally know people who are in that upper middle-class/rich tier of society. Sometimes I see their tweets/posts denouncing the injustices done upon the working class, how the (other) rich elite tend to discriminate the poor. And I laud and agree with their point 90% of the time. I just find it amusing that they say this chilling in some fancy cafe eating expensive food, drinking pretentious coffee, sending out their thoughts to the internet via their expensive Mac Book or iPhone.

Being Extremely Loyal To One’s Alma Mater Confuses Me

The only conclusion I could come up with is that this phenomenon could be attributed to our inherent tribalistic nature. Also, nostalgia is a powerful drug. Even the most logical of people are not immune to the intoxicating taste of reliving the joys of the past. It can, when utilized properly, be a great fuel to serve your present. The past can also be an anchor that prevents you from moving to the future, so there’s that.

Music Mondays – In The Frozen by Dreamcatcher

Music Mondays is back for Season 2 of 2020, and for the first entry of the extended year, I am featuring a song by my favorite KPop-metal girl group Dreamcatcher. The song is called “In The Frozen”, from their first full album The Tree of Language. It is this week’s Music Monday entry because of how cold it is today. It’s been very cold since yesterday, but I’m not complaining.

Internet Mob Rule (Tyranny of the Many)

On Sunday, January 3rd, news outlets reported the death of a 23-year old Philippine Airlines flight stewardess named Christine Dacera, who was found unconscious in hotel bathtub in Makati City on New Year’s Day. Dacera was with 11 other people, three of which were friends while the others were friends of those friends.
I truly hope justice will prevail, and that the truth — the factual truth — will come out. I just won’t hold my breath if I were you.

Silence is the Enemy 2021

Not to sound edgy or anything, but in my advanced age I’ve found that the celebration of Earth completing another revolution around the Sun to be completely pointless. There is simply no significant scientific reason to celebrate (a fact tweeted by Dr. Neil deGrasse-Tyson, for a which he got called out for; I do believe he deserved the backlash for being a dick lol). I do, however, acknowledge that sentimentality is a part of the whole human experience — and as this blog has shown, I for one am a very sentimental idiot. Even in my cynical years, I don’t think that will change, no matter how aggressive I try to stay logical.
