So, with Metro Manila locked down, and other parts of the country surely to follow (including Iloilo City), people have started panic buying essential household items. Panic buying is unadvisable.
People who panic buy things tend to overstock, which ends up with them owning more items than they need, leaving others empty handed. We were grocery shopping today and I couldn’t help but chuckle at the amount of stuff people are putting in their cart. I audibly said in exasperation “may bunker kita nga panagu-an??” (is there a bunker we can hide in??)
It’s annoying to see a lot of shelves already empty, especially the hygiene section of the grocery store. I do get why people are panicking, but being prepared and hoarding aren’t the same thing. It’s pretty selfish to hoard stuff because again, other people (and not just ourselves) need the same products, too.
Sharing is caring, as they say. Even more so when the world is facing a mini-apocalypse. (Ok maybe that’s not what the Walking Dead taught us but whatever.)
Oh, and by the way, today was a Friday the 13th, that didn’t deter people from panic-buying the crap out of grocery stores lmao
