Story Time: The Day The Jeep I Was In Almost Got Hit By Lighting

I guess the title says a lot about where this story is going, but yeah. It was around June 2013, I was on my way home from school at around 4-5 PM. Thunderstorms are frequent late in the day this time of the year in the Philippines as monsoon season is about to start.

The skies were starting to get dark, strong gusts of wind everywhere. Again, this is nothing new, so I made a snide comment to myself about Metallica’s song called “Ride The Lightning” and chuckled an inaudible chuckle.

As the jeep I was in was plying through Dulonan street in Arevalo, Iloilo City lighting struck the concrete road. Had the jeep been like a couple of seconds slower, the lightning might have hit it… us passengers? It was a freaky moment for sure but seeing Mother Nature’s fury up close was gnarly af.

The odds of being struck by lightning in your lifetime is 1 in 3, 000. I wouldn’t want the 0.000333% portion to prevail.
