Game of Thrones Season 8 Trailer # 1

The first official trailer for Game of Throne’s final season just dropped and holy crap, it’s got me way stoked — and I already am pretty darn excited to begin with.

Here are some of my takeaways from the clip:

  1. Based on the trailer, I’m going to conclude that the Night King and his army of the dead do not succeed in conquering Westeros. Check out the scene around the 1:23 mark of the video, Jon Snow and Daenerys Targaryen are approaching the two dragons. That moment looks lighter/brighter/less stressful compared to all the other pre-battle with the undead scenes throughout the trailer, suggesting that the living has triumphed.
  2. In the same scene mentioned above, the two dragons Drogon and Rhaegal are standing over what looks like… dragon bones! Perhaps these belong to their brother Viserion, who has fallen and resurrected by the Night King in the previous season. This is further proof that the White Walkers have been defeated in battle (which is contrary to my grim predictions, fortunately).
  3. Tormund Giantsbane and Berric Dondarion* are alive!!! There was a short scene of the two walking in the trailer. I appreciate this confirmation because we were left hanging at the end of Season 7 when the Wall collapsed after Viserion breathed magical fire-ice onto the structure. Tormund and Berric were caught in the middle of the attack and presumed dead, so this is good news.
  4. Jamie Lannister is going to die, isn’t he? The trailer didn’t confirm this, not did it show any indication that the King Slayer gets slain in battle before the final episode ends. This is just a gut feeling.
  5. I’m predicting Sansa is going to rule Winterfell, and is going to become a good ruler. She’ll have the slowest character development in all of Thrones, but people are going to hate her a little less.
  6. Who is Arya running from at the beginning of the video? 🤔
  7. Circe just keeps drinking wine, so I’m not entirely sure what to think of her fate.
  8. Qyburn needs to die.
  9. Jon and Dany are going to co-rule Westeros, and, in true Targaryen fashion, continue boning each other even though they’d have realized their true relationship by the end of the show.
  10. Theon didn’t appear in the trailer, but man, I hope he redeems himself.

Game of Thrones returns to HBO for one final season on April 14. I can’t wait.
