Today, February 24th, is the the 33rd anniversary of the EDSA People Power Revolution, the bloodless, non-violent revolution that helped topple down the regime of Ferdinand Marcos in 1986. The event brought back democracy into the Philippines after the corrupt dictator took sole control in 1972 upon declaring Martial Law.
In line with this, this week’s Music Mondays features a song by Green Day called “Know Your Enemy”. This is the song where I got the name of the blog — Silence is the Enemy (from the chorus).
By saying nothing and taking inaction, we favor the ones who oppress those who cannot fend for themselves. Thus the song encourages us to speak up and let our voices be heard, just like what those who participated in EDSA did.
Had they remained silent, we might still be under the hold of the decrepit dictator’s progeny (although one can make the argument that our country is currently inder the rule of some sort of nouveau dictatorship, but I digress).
Remember, silence is the enemy.
