I featured Midnight Meetings on this week’s Music Mondays. As stated there, the band is fronted by Filipino gamer and event host Ashley Gosiengfiao. The post reminded me of a little story that both lights me up with smug joy and enrages me at the same time.
On March 13, 2015, the American rock band Incubus had a concert in Manila, so naturally, being a huge fan of them, I bought tickets and saw them live. A great time was had by yours truly. Near the end of Incubus’ set, I noticed this dude beside taking a selfie with an artistahin-looking chinita girl who had super fair complexion, I thought she was a vampire.
I didn’t mind it then, thinking this is Manila, there are a ton of artistahin-looking girls everywhere, right? But I spotted her two more times that night, once at the venue after the show had ended and when the crowd started to disperse. A couple of people took selfies with her then.

The other time was outside the MOA Arena parking lot where another group of people took selfies with her. I caught a better view of her face this time and that’s when her identity dawned on me.
It was Ashley Gosiengfiao. Holy crap. My companions were in a hurry to hail a cab (this was before we plebes were aware of the existence of Grab and Uber) so my brain couldn’t process fast enough what I wanted to do.
Obviously I wanted a selfie with Ashley too because you know what they say: pics or it didn’t happen. Thems the rules. So I guess you now get the “enrage” part that I mentioned earlier.
Oh well, at least I can live with the memory and the fact that Ashley and I stood beside each other and probably inhaled the same air that the other exhaled (cue ~those~ lyrics from Gemini by Sponge Cola). That’s not creepy at all.
