Story time: Remembering how diligent a student I was as a child

While adult me is jaded and disillusioned with how the educational system works these days, there was a time when I was an avid fan of going to school. Yes, I was super enthused to go to school. Nerd!

I can remember a time when I was in elementary school, the first grade, circa 1998. I don’t recall the exact date (my memory isn’t ~that~ great). It was probably monsoon season. It was a school day, and rain fell like crazy. I’m talking about zero visibility, flooding in low-lying areas.

However, there was no explicit announcement that school was cancelled for the day, so I, being the good school boy that I was, got ready for class like I usually do. My parents were teachers, and my mom taught in the same school I go to, so this sort of diligence was not surprising (I guess). Anyway, since no cancellation of classes were announced, the default assumption is that classes would go on like normal.

Imagine my  teacher’s surprise/amusement when I arrived at our classroom. I was literally the only non-faculty person inside school grounds at that time. Maybe I was too diligent for my own good, a naive little prick.

I vividly remember her asking if I still want to go on with classes that day. Maybe it was a sarcastic question? Anyway, I simply said no and went to my mom’s classroom and waited until it was time to go home.

The moral of the story here is that being too much of a good school boy makes you a lame ass turd when you grow up, and isn’t a guarantee that you will be successful in life. So when the universe tells you to not go to school (by way of a massive rainstorm), you freaking listen to the universe.
