Kainan With Kinan #3 – Pininyahang Manok (Pineapple Chicken)

Previously on Kainan With Kinan, I shared about the two things I learned to make — the sempiternal Filipino dishes adobo and tapa!

For this edition of Kainan With Kinan, I learned how to cook a dish that’s not as popular as the first two but equally as kanamitern (this is a colloquial term in Iloilo used to exaggeratedly describe how good something tastes; please don’t ever use it, it’s a horrible-sounding term that I managed to pick up 🤦🏻‍♂️).

The dish is called Pininyahang Manok (lit. pineapple chicken). As the name suggests, P.M is made by cooking chicken in pineappl juice and chunks! Simply marinate chicken parts (I use pecho or thigh parts) in canned pineapple juice, pineapple chunks, then boil it together with other ingredients such as onions, garlic, tomatoes, carrots, bell pepper, fresh milk, and fish sauce or patis.

The finished product gives off a refreshing sweet, meaty taste that gives you a tropical feeling of some sort.

To be frank, I’m not fond of this dish before, but in my desire to try new things, I enjoyed eating what I made. There might be some bias that statement. Maybe. Regardless, it’s definitely great to learn something new and I can now files this under “Stuff That May Come In Handy Someday”.
