Rebirth

The concept of rebirth has always fascinated mankind, even in ancient times. Stories and legends revolving around the process of being born again have been told for countless millenia. Take the Phoenix for example. It has been one of the most well known symbols of rebirth. This mythical fire-bird builds a nest at the end of its life cycle, where it then self-emolates until everything is turned to ashes. And, as legend goes, from these ashes arises a new Phoenix.

From a modern standpoint, rebirth can be viewed as something metaphorical that happens to people on a daily basis. This could come in the form of a new job for a struggling dad who was laid off from his previous one. Or a new basketball season for a team who lost the championship in the previous year’s Finals. How about a new relationship for a young, clueless millenial whose heart was shattered to a million pieces during his previous one? I could go on and on with a list of examples.

For me, and by extension, my blog, rebirth is being able to engage again in something I really loved doing but was unable to in recent years due to various misadventures.

After feeling an urge to start writing again (writing in general, not just blogging), I sent out the following poll to my Twitter followers, asking if I should revive my blog or start fresh with a new one, effectively killing off Silence Is The Enemy.

Surprisingly, I got a good total number of votes, which mostly (save for a couple of nihilistic “nothing matters” answers) said I should revive and rebuild Silence Is The Enemy (apparently called SITE if abbreviated).

So here it is. I listened to you, dear friends, and my old blog has a new look, new feel, heck even a new color scheme. Gone is the doom and gloom layout of its previous incarnation. This theme is clean, simple and minimalistic. More importantly, SITE looks good whether you’re reading from a desktop computer, tablet or smartphone.

Of course, my blog’s rebirth is not limited to its appearance. The content will (most likely) have a new and different tone. I left all my old posts as they are to demonstrate the dichotomy between old SITE and new SITE and to better emphasize the concept of rebirth. I’ll be the first to admit that I was a total jerky writer growing up. I was full of angst and was *sort of* one-sided at times. Also, the kind of stuff I’d talk about in my blog posts were super lame.

Now, I’m excited to incorporate every new experience, every new life lesson that I’ve learned as a fully functional adult living/working/trying to survive Cebu (the part about “fully functional” may or may not be accurate).

What can you expect from SITE moving forward? I don’t know. I’ve learned to not expect things because expectations only cause pain. Loljk. Seriously though, SITE is a personal blog, hence the content is very fluid. Of course the staple topics will always be there — basketball, music, comics, my traveling experiences, TV shows, etc. Wink, wink, winter is coming.

I somewhat regret not blogging as I pursued other misadventures in the past 3 years. It would’ve been great to write about them as they happened. But hindsight provides perspective, so I guess I could discuss those experiences more objectively, with minimal bias. So at least I got that going for me.

Looking forward to writing more of this nonsense. Really.
