I was never remotely interested in trying Korean food prior to this because… I’m not really sure why. Maybe it’s partly because of my ignorance to much of Korean culture and partly because my mind wasn’t open to newer experiences before.
Anyway, my first time trying Korean was a pretty fun experience for me. It was a random Sunday, March 15, 2015. I had just got back from Manila after seeing one of my favorite bands Incubus play at the MOA Arena on the 13th.
Doc Cybelle texted that she wanted to hang so Fria and I picked her up and ~they~ decided to go to a Korean restaurant. I forgot the name of the place but it was at AS Fortuna Street in Mandaue. Anyway, of course I had no clue what to make of a samgyupsal. It was… cool that you get to cook your own meat, but the smell of the kimchi was overbearing to say the least. My nose isn’t as sensitive as some people’s but I easily get thrown aback by strong scents.
It took some time to get used to, eating samgyupsal. Also, I had to eat a lot of rice to combat the strong kimchi taste and odor. Who knew rice would be a nice coping mechanism? Lol. But I enjoyed myself at the end of the meal. It just took me a longer time to get acclimated compared to when I’m eating, say, a quarter-pounder cheese burger. But hey, I was super full and that’s all that matters.
(I was very flatulent, too)
