Okay, tomorrow the Supreme Court will hold a hearing on the petitions filed by several persons/organizations that seek to nullify the recently enacted Cybercrime Prevention Act of 2012.
A lot of people are clamoring against the said law because people are afraid that this would result to having some of their rights, such as freedom of expression and right to privacy, violated. People are also afraid now that internet libel is also punishable under this law.
I agree that this law could be a tool for oppression. But hey, aren’t all laws potential tools for oppression? It depends on the people who implement it. That’s what we should be concerned about. We should be vigilant as to who the Department of Justice puts as head of the task force authorized to implement this law, not come up with conspiracy theories.
And oh, if the “internet libel” part scares you, then stop saying stupid things about people on the internet.
